New Sports You Have To Try This Year

The world of sports is under constant reevaluation. It might not always seem like it, but new sports are being invented all the time. While the classics are the classics for a reason, that doesn't mean we shouldn't occasionally try out the new ones. If you have been looking for a new sport to try, then look no further. Here are some of the best new sports which you should definitely look into this summer.

360Ball

360Ball is one of the oldest on this list. It was invented in 1990 by two South Africans by the names of Mark and John Collins, and it has been growing in popularity ever since. The defining unique feature of 360Ball is that the playing area is circular - not what you usually expect from a ball game, but it works well. It is one of the strangest ball games to watch, however. Players rotate around the field constantly during play, while attempting to hit the ball onto a disc in the centre. For a game with a spin, this is the one to look out for!

In contrast to 360Ball, Airball is a very recent sport. It was invented in 2014 as a response to some of the limitations of Volleyball. In Airball, the players aim to keep the ball in the air above the net. Like 360Ball, Airball also has a distinctive circular court. It also borrows from a few other sports. For example, it relies upon the scoring used in tennis. However, despite its heavy borrowing, it is a unique sport which seems set to gain more and more followers.

Just a little before Airball, in 2013, Brennan Ball was invented in New Zealand. Brennan Ball is still in its alpha stages, and the inventor says it is still being designed. Nonetheless, it already appears as a fully-fledged sport in its own right. In the game of Brennan Ball, the players are aiming to score a 'grid'. Each team has twelve players, each in a specifically designated position. Something interesting about this game is that you are permitted to carry, pass or kick the ball. In this way, this sport is a lot like a mixture between football and rugby. However, it is a full contact sport, so it is closest to rugby in appearance.

Bossaball

Originating in Belgium, Bossaball has been gaining a great deal of popularity since its inception. Watching it is a little like watching volleyball, except that any form of contact is allowed. Each team also has an attacker, who spends most of their time bouncing higher and higher on the trampoline until they can get high enough to score a point. Points are also scored in the same way as they are in volleyball, with the ball reaching the other team's part of the court. This one definitely gets our vote for most interesting to watch!

Pickleball

One of the most interesting sports of recent times is Pickleball. In this sport, several elements of different sports are combined together to produce something unique. Elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong come into play in Pickleball, making it one of the most versatile sports on this list. It can be played either indoors or outdoors, and the setup is particularly easy. All you need to get started is a badminton court and a modified tennis net. If you have never heard of Pickleball before, you might be surprised to learn how popular it is. 2.46 million people play the sport worldwide, and the number is growing.

This is a sport which has an old-world feel, but with completely up-to-date rules. Crossball is a very new game, having been invented only in 2012. It is played by eight players a team, each of which is trying to score as many goals as possible in the allotted time. At first glance, the sport looks a little like soccer. However, there are some interesting distinctions. Crossball, for example, has an elliptical field, which makes for a very different kind of play indeed. One of the strangest aspects of Crossball is that, after taking possession of the ball, players have to stand still for ten seconds. Don't get it twisted, though - this is a lot of fun to play.

The British Navy invented Underwater Hockey in the 1950's as a means of getting their people to move efficiently under water. If you have ever seen it or tried it yourself, you will see why it can have this benefit. The game consists of fifteen minute halves, so it is one of the shorter games on this list. A team in underwater hockey has twelve players. However, don't make the mistake of thinking that the sport is simply hockey underwater. There is more to it than that. Players start at one end with a hand on the wall, and the puck in the middle of the pool. When the whistle is blown, both teams race for possession of the puck. It is a non-contact sport, and the aim is to score as many goals as possible. It has been said that underwater hockey is one of the best ways to stay fit. For that reason alone, it is more than worth looking into.

Hardball

Back onto the newer games now: Hardball is a very recent addition to the world of sport, but a most exciting one. Ultimately, it can be said to be a combination of football and basketball. There are three positions in the sport: the dodger, the slammer, and the shooter. Their jobs are pretty much what they sound like! The dodger's task is to throw the ball in seven seconds, or else the slammer could slam it and score a point. Alternatively, the shooter could score by shooting the ball into the opponent's area. As far as mash-ups of existing sports go, this is one of the best we have ever seen. If you are looking for an easy sport to get into this year, this might be worth a shot...or a slam.
